Black Power Response

Black Power by James McBride, gives a concept of black power in relation to identity or an idea that may define him.   I think the main point of “black power” is that it shows how curious the child is as to where he came from and where the mother came from.  He really wants to know all about his ancestors and what they were like.  He asks his mother if his grandparents were nice and loved his mother.  I believe it is an identity and an idea that defines him.  The boy is always wondering why he is the way he is and is always asking questions about his parents to his siblings.  Even though the siblings always tell him lies, he is curious about it.  His identity comes from his parents and how they raised him.  I believe that he though that because they were black, that their type of identity would be different from everyone else.  There were twelve young “light-skinned” children, as his mother would tell him.  When asked what color she was, she would tell them light-skinned because she didn’t think color would make a difference toward anything.
